The integrated, graduated scale allows operators to rotate and lock the output spindle at any intermediate angle. This adjustment enables standard vertical or horizontal mills to machine complex angled pockets, sloped chamfers, and compound-angle holes. By executing these features in a single setup, workshops can eliminate secondary workholding fixtures, minimize positioning errors caused by multiple manual clampings, and reduce non-productive setup times.
Adjustable swivel joints are naturally subjected to complex axial and radial cutting forces. To counteract deflection and absorb cutting vibrations, BOD YW series angle heads are manufactured with heavy-duty structural components:
Monoblock Casings: Cast from high-grade QT500-7 Ductile Cast Iron.
Stress Relief: The housings are subjected to artificial aging and cryogenic stress-relief treatments to stabilize the metallurgical structure.
Torque Support: This robust casing design ensures the unit remains highly rigid under heavy cutting loads, supporting a maximum output cutting torque of up to 65.0 Nm on BT50 series models.
To maintain precise rotational accuracy when operating at tilted angles, the internal drive system is built to tight mechanical tolerances:
Gleason Spiral Bevel Gears: Made of 20CrMnTi Alloy Steel, carburized and quenched to a surface hardness of HRC 58-62, and ground to ISO Grade 4 precision. Transmission backlash is limited to ≤ 15 arcmin, and full-load noise is kept to ≤ 70 dB.
Clamping Versatility: Spindles accept standard ER collets up to ER32 (such as on the WXER32 model), allowing clamping capacities up to Ø20.0 mm.
P4 Spindle Bearings: Supported by high-precision, preloaded P4 class angular contact bearings, the spindle assembly minimizes tool runout and maintains alignment under heavy radial and axial side-milling forces.
